Poor Wilfred needs a special rescue who can protect him forever. Now got a rescue :)
Wilfred needs an extremely special rescue space (NOT FOR REHOMING).
Wilfred is a 6yr old staffie-type cross. He is chipped, but the "owners" didn't want him back: their comment was 'just put him to sleep'
Little boy lost, Wilfred has never known stability. He has been passed from pillar to post throughout his life - his chip reveals he was rehomed by a vet in 2009 and in the 3 years since, Wilfred has been picked up stray by various local authorities, at least 4- 5 times.
Wilfred has all the hallmarks of a dog that has been horrendously mistreated. He is scared of water and staff were told that this is because he used to get thrown in the canal
The pound suspect that Wilfred may have been trained to fight as a youngster, so he isn't dog friendly. However, Wilfred has become a lot more tolerant of other dogs passing his kennel since coming to the pound and staff believe he could be taught to ignore them.
On his arrival at the kennels, Wilfred displayed some challenging behaviour with staff: he had difficulty backing down and accepting instruction. Is it any wonder, when he's had noone to guide him all these years? Wilfred has shown considerable improvement since he arrived but would benefit from an experienced handler to continue his training. To their surprise, staff have found that as they have got to know him, Wilfred is in fact keen to learn and keen to impress. After everything this dog has been through, he still wants to love and to be loved. He tries to be obedient and with time and further training, would make a lovely loyal companion.
Wilfred appears to have a long term skin condition on his tummy area that the vets have said is probably an allergic reaction. His skin has improved 10 fold since he arrived at the pound.
Wilfred is currently the South East but we will transfer him to any suitable rescue with facilities to rehabilitate him.
These dogs are poundies seeking urgent RESCUE SPACES. They cannot be rehomed direct to the public. They need to be fully assessed and given essential veterinary care before they are deemed ready for rehoming. These dogs need urgent RESCUE help NOW. All are way over their 7 days and at risk of being put to sleep if ...

We are so happy to hear Wilfred as a fantastic offer from rescue Remedies, he will go when they have a space, but we know now Wilfred will be well looked after and always backed up, as this lad as had such a raw deal 5 pounds in 2 years, how awful.
